Racist tirades against Obama

It looked so promising in 2008

Those who followed my blog in 2008, knew how excited I was about Obama's victory at the 2008 Presidential election. I remember how closely I followed the whole campaign since 2007. Obama particularly caught my attention by that time, I had the feeling that he may go really far. And man, he really went further than my wildest expectations. His speeches gave me goosebumps and sometimes they still do. I won't ever forget that night and his speech in Chicago. in front of thousands of people, knowing that he will be the next president of the United States. It was about 4am in the morning, when I watched that speech live on CNN and I won't ever forget that moment, when Jesse Jackson cried. I guess I was moved a little, too, even though I'm not American. I think there probably wasn't a single African American, who wasn't somehow touched that night. But this was beyond America, the whole world was amazed by what just happened in that moment.

And then 2 years later at the midterm elections, Obama and the Democrats lose their majority in the Congress and the general mood in the country seems anti-Obama. And there seems to be a small but loud group of people, who think it's OK to voice racist comments. I read this article on Yahoo! News (this is just a snippet):

Since the expectations were so high in 2008, Obama couldn't possibly meet them. 2 years are too short for a decade of wrong decisions and failed policies. But well, everyone expects super things from Superman, right? Even though I admire Obama and support most of his policies, I can understand that some Americans are disappointed. But what I don't understand is the disgusting racism against Obama, that seems to be OK now, almost mainstream (I'm talking about online). I remember, when everyone ridiculed the birthers and the tea party a year ago, but now they're getting elected! Now they're mainstream. Same was with the racists: They seemed to be totally nonexistent in 2008 (with few exceptions), now it seems they can spew out their hate against Obama and even get applause from a lot of people (especially online). If you read any article about Obama on Yahoo! News these days, I guarantee you, that you'll come across a lot of flat out racist comments (accompanied with many "likes"). Let me show you some comments on the article above (published a day after Obama lost the midterm elections. I highlighted the worst parts):

Since I'm not American and my impressions about the current situation in America base on what I see on TV or read online, I wonder: Is it really so bad? Judging by the comments on Yahoo! News, America is ruled by an "African born Muslim who is an anti American racist, that can't run the country and needs to be imprisoned, if not executed". That's scary. How can someone in their mind really believe such things? Or am I making too much of it?

What I'm reading these days is a total opposite of what I was reading in 2008. America, what happened? Hope my American followers can enlighten me on this. But please, explain to me why are there more and more racist comments online on Obama. Or is my impression completely wrong?

Dr. Peter Bossman, first black mayor in Slovenia

Dr. Peter Bossman (born 1955 in Ghana) was yesterday elected as the first black mayor in Slovenia. He is now the mayor of Piran, one of Slovenia's most beautiful towns and top tourist destinations. And no, it's not his cool family name, that made his victory so special, it's the fact, that he's not of Slovenian descent and that he's black. Both facts are something new in Slovenia and many Slovenians outside Piran have never heard about him until this year's mayoral elections. And symbolically it's also a big deal for this part of Europe. How many black mayors do you know in Austria, Germany or Poland? I guess not many... if any.

✰ There are not many non-white people in Slovenia

The thing about Slovenia is, that we're a very small country, but very diverse. Every region has its own distinctive dialect, way of life and history. And we're a pretty young sovereign state, few months short of 20 years. And who knows Slovenia anyway? We're constantly mistaken for Slovakia or we're not known at all. And I guess that's the reason that Slovenia is not one of the hot spots for foreign immigrants. It's interesting, but you will hardly find people of any other race than white in Slovenia. There are few Chinese, who usually run restaurants with Chinese food. I guess they will be found in almost any bigger and smaller town (but usually one or two families), but when it comes to Africans, Arabs, Turks or Filipinos (ethnic groups that are commonly emigrating), you will have a hard time finding some in Slovenia. Maybe in recent years foreign influx has slightly increased in Slovenia, but it's hardly visible on our streets. Those who Slovenians perceive as foreigners, came from the former Yugoslav brethren nations such as Serbia, Croatia and Bosnia. There are also many Albanians here as well as Roma (Romani people or commonly "gypsies"), who are an ethnic group with a special status in Slovenia and there are also many issues related to them.

✰ How mistrust in foreigners is connected to Slovenian history

So in these circumstances it's of course something new for a Slovenian municipality to elect a black mayor. Of course there is a lot of racism and stereotypical thinking about foreigners here. Some is the same as found in other Western countries, but some is the result of the painful Slovenian history. We were 8 centuries under Austria, partly under Italy and Hungary and even under France for a brief period. We endured two world wars, where many of our countrymen were executed just for being Slovenians. Many Slovenians immigrated, many were Germanized and Italianized. For centuries we had to struggle to preserve our own language and identity. When other Western nations had their first states in the 18th or 19th century, we had to wait until 1991 to be a fully independent and internationally recognized state. Don't misunderstand, I do not want to condone any racism or stereotypical thinking, I just want to explain the reasons to you. History is always present in the minds of Slovenians and every time there are elections, we start to argue about who was pro-communist and who was anti-communist in 1945 and beyond, because we have two blocks (left and right wing), who exploit these sentiments every time we have parliamentary or presidential elections. Most of it is fought out in the media, but more so online. Stupid comments and provocations on both sides are the norm, but I think that's gradually changing.

✰ Left-right online wars peaked in 2008

The peak of these left-right online wars was reached in 2008, where the (at that time incumbent) right-wing government lead by Janez Janša lost the elections by a very small margin. If you had read the online comments at that time, you'd feel like Slovenia was back in 1942 in peak World War II. I must say I really felt uncomfortable during that time, sometimes it was unbearable. It was better to avoid forums and online news and the comments. Two years later and things have changed a lot in Slovenia. Basically now most Slovenians would say everyone sucks. Be it the right wing or the left wing government, they're all corrupt or incapable of leading this nation out of the recession. Slovenians are bitter in 2010. Very bitter and angry, not only at the politicians, but also at business magnates, that (at least according to the media) run this country. There were many layoffs in factories and a lot of general strikes lately, which gives the impression to the average Slovenian that the economy is in shambles. Now it's probably not a big surprise to you that people are sick of the usual nonsense from the politicians, they want serious solutions to important (usually existential) problems. And these exceed class, race and political preference. Basically we feel we're all screwed in this country. And we don't see a light at the end of the tunnel.

✰ 2010 is the year of change for Slovenians

So it's no wonder that the 2010 mayoral elections in Slovenia brought big change in voters' behavior. People now really read the political programs and try to give their votes to people who are not ideologues and to those who seem honest and don't spew the usual BS and most importantly who can get things done. No wonder that one of the richest men in Slovenia, Zoran Janković, who was mayor of Ljubljana from 2006-2010, was reelected. He was reelected, because he got things done. He transformed Ljubljana visibly, something that the mayors before him did not manage to achieve. And he's not even in a party, he has his own list and that's it. And he did not become one of the richest men in Slovenia by luck, he was the CEO of Mercator, a Slovenian supermarket chain comparable to the Dutch Spar (or Walmart in USA). Something similar happened in many other municipalities, people elected mayors who either did something good for their community or they replaced the old ones with people who have fresh ideas and solutions for the future. And that's where Peter Bossman comes in.

✰ And then came Dr. Peter Bossman

He was not known in Slovenia, but he was known in the municipality of Piran. He worked there as a doctor. Before he started his campaign he even had his own private practice. And judging from the opinions of his patients, he was a good doctor. He came to Slovenia (at that time under Yugoslavia) as a student from Ghana in 1977, eventually stayed here, became a physician and started a family. In the past years he was already a member of the Piran town council, which gave him some political experience.

And then came his campaign two months ago and suddenly his name was raised to a national level. Many people were surprised, that there's a candidate of African descent, who wants to be the mayor of one of our towns, but most people thought he does not stand a chance to win. Well, the people of Piran disagreed with that notion and gave the most votes to Dr. Peter Bossman and a small sensation was made in this country. But two things surprised me: The campaign was not about his race and also most reactions were not racist. Sure, there were and are many racist comments online, but we need to put things in perspective. And there were people from Piran saying on TV that they won't vote for him, because he's black. But there were also people, who said he's a good doctor and an honest person and that they trust him enough to be in charge of their town. In the end he won, because people thought of his program and ideas for Piran's future were good and he deserves a chance. He did not win, because of the color of his skin. Most critics attacked his inexperience and the fact, that he's not very fluent in Slovenian. The racist were in a vast minority. And I think that was a small step forward to Slovenia. I'd say a tiny step. You can't take Bossman's victory as a sign of big change in Slovenia, be it in the way we elect mayors or politicians in general, be it how we see foreigners, especially those that belong to a different race. Piran is after all a very small municipality with its specific problems that are not common in other parts of Slovenia. Interestingly, the media gave Dr. Peter Bossman the nickname "Slovenian Obama", which I think is totally ridiculous.

✰ Why is he not the Slovenian Obama

America has a very specific history of race relations, especially between Blacks and Whites. Peter Bossman just happens to be an immigrant from Africa, who came to Slovenia in pursuit of happiness, Obama on the other hand was (and partly still is) the hope of the people, whose forefathers were brought to America as Slaves and were abused, mistreated and humiliated for centuries. Obama's victory in 2008 showed that Americans can move forward, but his election was at the same time the start of a whole movement, that does not want to see a perceived liberal (actually centrist), Muslim (actually Christian), Black (actually biracial) president. What I read in certain comments on articles about Obama is truly scary. I have never read so many racist comments on American websites like in 2010 and I'm not sure, why that's ok to do in America these days. I really hope that Bossman won't have this type of negative reactions after he had served some time as a mayor of Piran. Lucky for him, he will never be a Slovenian Obama. He will always be Dr. Peter Bossman, the mayor of Piran 2010-2014.

✰ Let's stop seeing the color of his skin

Let's give the man a chance to prove himself. And let the people of Piran judge him in 2014. If he did a good job, he will be reelected, if he decides to run again. If he did a bad job, there will be candidates, who will challenge him in 2014. May the best win. And hopefully Piran will win a better future. Keep in mind, it's not about him being black or a good doctor. It's about him being a good mayor and doing good things for the municipality. And yes, he has the right to fail, he has the right to do a bad job and people have the right to criticize him. But please, just please, stop comparing him with Obama or mentioning the fact that he's black over and over again. From now on he's the mayor of Piran and only that should count. I always say, that I don't see colors, I see people. And those of you, who still see the color of his skin, rinse your eyes with pure water, look again and you might see the person. If it doesn't work, try harder. Eventually you can do it. You can. Yes, we all can. Good luck to Dr. Peter Bossman.

Ps: I only hope that Piran will benefit from recent international publicity about "the first black mayor in Slovenia". It's amazing, how the news have spread all over the world today.

Wang Zi Fei: Chinese online sensation

China's beauty in black

Recently there was news about a girl in China named Wang Zi Fei (王紫菲), who has become an instant internet sensation! She's called The Beauty in Black, but I'll explain that later. First have a look at her pictures: Doesn't she look beautiful?

Do you want to know how she became famous?

She sat behind US president Obama at his town hall meeting with an audience of students in Shanghai (Nov 16, 2009). While he spoke about individual rights and freedoms, the camera captured Wang Zi Fei in the back, who took of her red jacket and sat there in a black shirt and skirt and listened. Soon after the broadcasting Chinese netizens went crazy and started to speculate about her, naming her The Beauty in Black and begun to spread all kinds of false (and also nasty rumours) about her [Source here]. It's obvious that she caught attention, because she's beautiful. And I'm sure that the one who initially went crazy were men. That's just how it is and always was: Men go crazy when they spot a beautiful woman. She was just at the wrong place at the wrong time.

Zi Fei, I wish you good luck and hope you can get something good out of this after being defamed by so many Chinese netizens. A model career? We shall see. 加油, 紫菲!

No more drama! It was all a misunderstanding. The post Carina wrote was meant sarcastic, but I took it literally. I'm so sorry for my reaction, Carina. I made a mistake, I just didn't get it. I'm really sorry and embarrassed. So no more drama, we talked about it and let's move on. It was a nontroversy.

After such a stressful day today, I need some relief. I didn't feel so good the whole day, I need some rest. Let's just enjoy this video and be positive.

Obama won the Nobel peace prize!

This was just wow! Barack Obama won the Nobel peace prize 2009! I happened to watch it live on TV, when they announced it and I pride myself as being the first who broke the news on Twitter (I'm so FOM, I know, hehe). Anyway, the initial reactions on Twitter were funny, like: "What did he do???" Duh! Imagine Sarah Palin near the Oval office? Ok, joking aside, let's see some tweets:

My point of view: First of all, who cares why? Seriously. It's not Obama's "fault" to get this award. If you have complaints, send them via Oslo. If I was American, I would be proud. I mean, it won't hurt your country, will it? It can only make your image abroad better. You were pretty much hated by all over the world during Bush's 2 terms. Plus this award may be like a reminder for Obama to keep his promises and end wars and don't start new wars and to engage in peace efforts in Israel, Darfur and elsewhere in the world. It's a good signal. But I can imagine the rightwingers freaking out and finding new ways to mock Obama.

Anyway, congratulations mr. President and congratulations USA.

Birther jokes are funny, because Birthers are stupid.

Do you wanna hear some funny Birther jokes? [What is a Birther?] I have a small collection on my blog. You can read them in this post: Dear white fundamentalist Americans. I expected him to be dumb, racist and angry. And guess what? He was! :) I'm really honored that my blog was visited by the dumbest of our kind. Initially I thought that Birthers can't be true. These people are made up, so that the liberals have some material for jokes. Oops. I was proven wrong. They exist and they are very angry and damn serious. I can really just laugh about these people, but I do hope that the US secret service lives up to its task, because the danger is real. Someone as stupid as a Birther can be really dangerous. Let's hope that they'll only be 'taken seriously' in jokes :)

Where the fuck is this world going? Seriously! Are you kidding me? Nothing makes sense anymore! It's getting weirder and sicker. I better avoid watching news at all. I'm cocooning today and the next years. I need a fliter for internet to just filter out this mad sick world we're living in. I only want good news. I want to read about sane people. Because this made me sick:

• A South Carolina man was charged with having sex with a horse after the animal's owner caught the act on videotape, then staked out the stable and caught him at shotgun point. But this wasn't the first time the man has been charged with buggery: He pleaded guilty last year to having sex with the same horse after owner Barbara Kenley found him in the same stable and was sentenced to probation and placed on the state's sex offender list. • The conservative TV host Glenn Beck said that President Barack Obama had "over and over again" shown himself to be "a guy who has a deep-seated hatred for white people or the white culture," later adding, "I'm not saying he doesn't like white people, I'm saying he has a problem ... • A woman in Texas killed her own baby and ate parts of his brain. The scene was so gruesome investigators could barely speak: A 3½-week-old boy lay dismembered in the bedroom of a single-story house, three of his tiny toes chewed off, his face torn away, his head severed and his brains ripped out. When police entered, the woman screamed: "I killed my baby! I killed my baby!". She told officers the devil made her do it, police said. (source) [This is just so sick, I am speechless!]
  

I can't be sick all the time. I need to survive and I need to find a reason that my existence makes sense. At least some sense. Because sometimes it's just so fucked up that I don't have the willpower and the phisical strength to bear another day. I'd just like to vanish and say: "That's all, folks. I'm out. Bye."

A cowardly soldier and alien Obama

As you may have heard, some people in America, who hate Obama, want to prove that he's not a natural-born citizen of USA and therefore he's not elegible to be the president of the United States. They have whole websites dedicated to trash him just because he's not white black and because of his 'Hussein' middle name. For white supremacists and racists a black American president named Hussein must be like the fall of Babylon. They think stuff like this is funny [Their god must be cracking up].

Obama was born in Hawaii, Hawaii is part of USA (ask Rowena). The law is clear: If you're born on US soil, you are a natural-born citizen of America, regardless of your parents citizenship [check this article]. I like this law, I consider flying to USA on vacation when my wife will be almost due to give birth :).

Well, those Obama-haters (or shall I say nutcases) then go on saying his birth certificate was altered, forged or whatever. Anyway, no court has taken these people really seriously and they have no proof because there is none. But they have a lot of time and they have a lot of hate. How about they spend it on the research of the US presidential election of 2000 and George Bush and his issues with the law? Oh, that's history and it wouldn't bother them anyway.

Then I read this article on HuffPost and one comment really cracked me up. It's about a soldier who refused to be deployed to Afghanistan because (he believes) Barack Obama was never eligible to be president because of that birth-certificate thingy. Funny, huh? Some people called him coward, but one guy was really funny. Here's his take on this:

I can just laugh about this nonsense. It's always amusing when libs and neocons clash. So far, the libs were funnier, but I guess the neocons will catch up, because the current president is making them go nuts. And I couldn't be happier about this fact.

Has Michael Jackson ended the Iranian uprising?

So, there we go. Unfortunately, I was right. My theory about the Iranian post-election protests was, that the regime will harden, tighten the security, put more police and military on the streets and sooner or later, there will be something else in the news. And now, Michael Jackson is dead: Who's following the Iran protests now? The momentum is lost, the media has now diverted it's focus and we will get less and less information out of Iran. Soon there will be summer holidays, we will all forget Iran and Michael Jackson and go to the sea side or pools, swimming and barbecueing and enjoying life. That's human nature! Nobody can convince me otherwise.

As I said many many times, if people in Iran, who want change, don't grab guns and start shooting back at those bastards in the riot police and defend themselves with equal means, nothing will change. Be real. Nothing will change and you know it. This brutal regime survived 30 years, you can bet it has means and measures to sustain itself. Peaceful protests won't do anything, the regime doesn't understand peace, it's ruthless and hateful. Stone throwing won't help either. You need to give the regime what it exports to other countries: Suicide bombers, martyrs, mujahedin. Give them a taste of their own medicine. Turn Tehran into Bagdad and they will see, if they still have that smirk on the face like they used to have, when USA couldn't secure Iraq.

But I guess all that won't happen. Now the media will only focus on Michael Jackson, they will go through all his ups and downs, scandals and medical conditions. Many celebs will share their opinions, even Barack Obama will be expected to say something. There will be a funeral, there will be non-stop reporting for at least 2-3 weeks. What will LaToya say? What will Janet say? What will Liz Taylor say? There's so much to come. It's a big shocker and of course Michael Jackson deserves the attention. He was one of the last big superstars, probably THE last superstar (Madonna is nothing comparing to him). So, it's understandable... But quite bad for Iranians. Bad timing, but as I said, even if Iran was the number 1 topic in the media, it still wouldn't make any difference.

Obama can't do everything! He can't fix Iran!

I'm sick of those petty criticisms of Obama, coming from the left and right. He can't do everything! He can't please everbody. It seems like whatever he does, he get criticised for it. Either he does too much at the same time or too little. I know that criticism applied to Bush, too. But not in his first year, much later after Iraq became a big blunder. It's understandable that people are frustrated these days. We're living in some pretty dark times. Obama was seen as a kind of messiah, who will snap his fingers and the whole recession will go away. But in the end, he's just human. He's placed in a rigid system, where he only has small room to do something he's proposed last year. He must overcome all the obstacles at home and abroad, deal with a world that's partly in shambles. He fixed a lot, he will fix a lot, but he can't fix everything. And the latest petty criticism comes from people who want him to do more or say more on the Iranian election and events after. Why? Should he give a fiery speech like George Bush would do, talking about axis of evil and urging the regime to give the power to the people? If he does so, the regime will use it to fire up the nationalists, who support Ahmadinejad and they'll repeat that America is behind everything, America wants to put Iran in shambles... It's much more smart to be cautious and let the events unfold without meddling. What could America do anyway? Start another war? Impossible. So there's two options left: Be pragmatic and stay in the background, let Iranians solve the issues with their government or try to interfere, give strong speeches, threaten with sanctions. Well, I think he's doing great so far. I rather see him not go out there up front and start another conflict. And ain't it funny, if he doesn't do it, there's nobody else who would wanna play a 'George Bush'. You have the French president, the British prime minister or German chancellor - they are all quiet and observing the events in Iran to unfold! Is that the new pragmatism? Or just a normal common sense? I don't know for sure, but what I do know is, we have enough conflicts in this world and the West can't solve all of them. Middle East, Afganistan, Pakistan, China, Korea, Burma, Darfur, Kongo - we're living with these problems and we'll have to live with them for a long time and the US president won't be able to solve them, the West won't be able to solve them - the people there will have to solve it themselves.

Obama to the Muslim world

Obama's speech in Kairo was incredible! He reached out to the Muslim world like no other president before. People cheered and applauded him, some even said: We love you! Probably the first time an American president was so enthusiastically greeted by Muslims. Now look few months back, when George Bush was thrown a shoe at. That is change! Obama makes it a very hard for extremists. Al-Kaeda is furious. I'm sure muslim people will join Obama instead of Osama. Barack Obama is now the leader of the free world. He can't do miracles, he can't solve all the problems, but now the Western world has a leader who at least tries. In the beginning there was a word. And words matter. I'm sure actions will follow at the right time. Obama is the best thing that could happen to Americas foreign policies and standing in the world. I am still amazed. I watched a documentary on Obama today. A black pastor was asked what is the main difference between Obama and Bush in connection with religion. Whereas "Obama said that he never heard Jesus speak to him." The pastor added that "when Obama goes to church, he's always going there with a bit of a doubt." That inspired my following images.

Teabagging parties around America

These days there's a funny movement spreading around America - the teabagging rightwing movement. To explain to the non-Americans: It is supposedly a gathering of people who don't like a black man in the oval office. Read more here [blogger interrupted].

Vocab: Tebagging - [by Wiki 1] is a slang term for the act of a man placing his scrotum in the mouth or on or around the face (including the top of the head) of another person, often in a repeated in-and-out motion as in irrumatio. The practice vaguely resembles dipping a tea bag into a cup of tea. - [by UB 2] A conservative republican who protests against income taxes by rubbing their nutsacks in each other's faces.

Let's hope the teabagging movement keeps going. It is the Big ol' partie's sad epilogue, but at same time it's also hillarious. So we wouldn't wanna miss it in the future.

Obama is a genius!

My whole last year 2008 was accompanied with excitement about the US presidential elections and Barack Obama. I can say, I heard about him already in 2006 when he went to Kenya and CNN reported it. One year later, in 2007, I watched on CNN how he announced his presidential campaign. And they began to report more and more about him and I already became a huge fan. At that time, everyone was excited about Hillary Clinton. Most of the meadia thought she already won, but not me. I knew Barack Obama was the best candidate with the best ideas that reflected my views and conceptions. I didn't doubt Obama, I doubted the American people due to the recent history of racism and the dominance of the right wing (that's was the perception). Anyway, luckily I was proven wrong and Obama was elected. It was a roller coaster: From Iowa to the Supertuesday to the debates with Hillary Clinton. Then came Bill Clinton's 'Fairytale', reverend Wright, 'Bittergate', Pennsyilvania and a lot of distress. Was I relieved when he won North Carolina and virtually wrapped up the nomination. I was so sick of those CNN pundits and all their bickering and ridiculing. I got goose bumps when I saw him in Denver in that big stadium. Joe Biden was a great choice, too. It seemed perfect. And then came McCain and the Republicans with their low shots and of course the joke of the year: Sarah Palin, her stupidity and ignorance. It was hillarious. I loved the presidential debates with McCain. Obama showed that he has an exceptional intellect. And then: election night! When he got Pennsylvania and Florida I knew he won. I waited until 4am to hear him speak. That speech was really history made infront of my eyes. I will always remember where I was when I heard it. I felt I was there in Chicago, I felt I was American and all the positive things that are associated with it. I felt that in 1 single day the world became a better place.
And now here we are. It's March 2009 and I tune in CNN and see president Barack Obama has a town hall meeting, answering questions and trying to increase support for his bold policies. After the election and until the inauguration I was in Malaysia and couldn't follow his interviews and all that was happening in that period. So tonight I heard him speak after a long time and I thought: Wow, he is a genius! In this moment I think there's not a single democratic politician in the world who is as intelligent, witted and articulate as Barack Obama. He could sell you any idea by the way he delivers it to you. It's still incredible, it won't decline and I think even after he will face tough backfire, make mistakes, he will give a speech and you will believe him or forgive him. Barack Obama is a genius. He will transform the presidency like Lincoln or FDR did. He won't be topped in my life time, he set the bar too high for any successor, it's a once-in-a-century thing. That's why, even in these hard times, recesion, terrorism, financial crisis... I know we (the whole world) have someone who's honestly working the hardest he can to make a difference. It's a great time to be alive.

The 44th President of the United States

So, there he is. The new president with the new first lady. The inauguration is over, people are relieved that W is history now. He won't call the shots anymore. New pragmatism, new progressive approach - that's what we need now. The world needs America as a role model, not as a world bully. Please, mr. President, make this world a bit of a better place. We'll see what will change in 4 years. Good luck!

The world looks so much better now

Wow... was quite a ride... what to say... a huge relief after Barack Obama won. Seems like history was written and the whole world was excited about America. We haven't seen that for quite a long time. It really makes me happy. I was so long interested in this process. It was amazing to see all the highs and lows. But most of all, it was a great story. I'm sure one day somebody will shoot a movie on Barack Obama's incredible victory. I wish him best of luck and may he help the world to become a better place.

Finally!!! It happened beyond our wildest dreams! Barack Obama won the elections on 2008 and he will be the next president of the USA. I am so proud of the US people and I really don't know, if it's more of a Obama victory or a more of a victory of the American people.
I was awake all night, I watched CNN and some other programmes... It was just incredible, when we saw how he took Pennsylvania, Ohio... I almost thought this is it! But I was still sceptical... When i saw his lead in Florida, I was confident! He exceeded all expectations - it was a landslide victory. And his speach was breath taking. A moment we will always remember. America is truly a land of opportunity and equality, you just need to work hard, be honest and have ideas. He beat the establishment of his own party and the best candidate of his rival's party. I can't fully grasp what this win means. It has to sink in...
I also need to praise McCain for his marvellous concession speech. He showed his real face, that's the McCain we missed in these months. You can clearly see how relieved he was, how gracious and humble. I hope he will have a long life. He's a great American. Unfortunately, his campaign sucked, had too many lows, too little highs.

I'm also happy that there's no more Sarah Palin. She was really a disgrace for this year of change. This was McCain's biggest mistakes. People were more scared of Palin than Obama.
And now, I hope America can head into a new direction of working together with the rest of the world, solving global problems together, ending wars and restoring confidence in the West.
